But now they are both administered as National parks and biosphere reserves. Easter Island is over 2,000 miles from the nearest population center making it one of the most isolated places on earth. It carries an embraced mystery to it and is best known for the curiously placed stone monoliths, called Moai, that are found dotting the coastline.
